Lighting

Lighting notes-
In terms of lighting for our music video, we are going to try and get a natural tone to the clips by using natural light. The video is supposed to be about the everyday life of a character after the death of her boyfriend and so we will try not to change the natural lighting too drastically. However, because we are trying to make a video that represents sadness we will also use a slight low-key darkness and filters that darken the shots a little to add connotations of loneliness and mourning.

We have to take into consideration of when we are going to go out and film because the sun is going to have an impact on our lighting. If we went and filmed out in the dark, we do not have the equipment to make the filming look clear and therefore the audience would struggle to see our music video. This would then result in our music video looking of an unprofessional product.

Below I have inserted a video and the last 10-20 seconds of the video, the lighting was poor. This was because they was in a dark environment and they wanted the audience to read something on the shirt of the character however it was impossible to do so.

Here is also a screenshot. You can see that it is hard to read so this shows us that when we make our music video, we need to make sure the lighting is of a good standard.

What we will use
With the majority of our shots we will be using natural lighting. This will be used to connote the naturalistic storyline this video is telling. From the time we are filming(which is around 3-5) it will be a dusk sort of setting.

The time of filming and what we will use
The lighting at this sort of time will be just getting dark. This will then be used to connote and emphasise the sadness of the story being told. In the inside pieces of footage there will be internal house lights used as it will be dark outside.

Lighting is a very important element to be focussed upon when conducting a music video, it creates moods within the video which the audience aren't aware of for example low key lighting in a video would connote death or despair. Our music video has a depressive theme throughout with the death of a character apparent, therefore we need to create low key lighting to symbolise this.
